Mercedes-Benz has announced a global recall of 215,231 S-Class vehicles due to the risk of brake fluid leaks.
The problem was found in the hoses on the saloon's front axle. Damage to them may reduce braking performance and increase the risk of an accident, especially when driving at high speed.
In addition, fluid spilt on the road may pose an additional hazard to other vehicles.
The recall covers all S-Class versions with air suspension, including the Maybach and AMG versions. It concerns W223-generation vehicles produced between June 2019 and November 2024.
A similar recall campaign was previously carried out only in the USA; it has now been extended to other countries, including Germany, where the problem has been identified in 11,828 vehicles.
Owners are advised not to use their vehicle if they notice unusual noises or signs of a fault in the steering or braking systems, and to take it to a service centre for inspection.
According to some regulators, the faulty brake hoses may have been supplied to Mercedes-Benz by Continental, but the carmaker has not officially confirmed this.
