Turkmen sambo wrestler Sanjarbek Avazberdyev has won a gold medal at the 50th World Sambo Championships, which are being held in Tashkent. The athlete won the combat sambo discipline in the up to 64 kg weight category.
In the final bout, Avazberdyev defeated Yauhen Mikhno of Belarus 8:0. The Turkmen athlete finished the tournament with five victories and conceded only one point to his opponents throughout the entire competition.
On his way to the final, Avazberdyev successively defeated Lenin Guerra of Ecuador 6:0, Yan Raskin of Ukraine 9:0, Abdelmounim Farouhi of Morocco 8:0 and Mais Nersesyan of Armenia 8:1.
The landmark World Sambo Championships are taking place on 7 November 2026 in Tashkent.
