Tesla plans to wind down production of its Cybertruck electric pickup at its Gigafactory Texas plant around mid-2027. This was announced by the company's chief executive, Elon Musk.
According to him, reducing Cybertruck output will allow the carmaker to increase production of its new Cybercab model. Responding to a user's comment on the social network X, Musk called the Cybertruck “the best vehicle Tesla has ever made” and described the end of its production as “the end of an era”.
It is not yet clear whether Cybertruck assembly will be moved to another site or discontinued altogether. At present, the plant in Austin, Texas, is the only Tesla facility equipped to manufacture the specific components required to assemble this vehicle.
Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck to customers at the end of 2023. However, sales of the model in the US remained well below the company's initial forecasts. According to Kelley Blue Book, Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks on the American market in 2025, 48% fewer than a year earlier, when 38,965 vehicles were sold.
When Cybertruck production began in 2023, Musk predicted that annual sales of the model could reach 250,000 vehicles.
